The Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS) provides basic dental services to children aged 2 – 17 years old (for at least 1 day of the calendar year). The child MUST also get, or be part of a family getting, an eligible Centrelink payment for at least 1 day of the calendar year.
Eligibility is assessed at the beginning of each calendar year and is valid for the entire year. If a patient becomes eligible part way through the calendar year, they only get benefits under the CDBS from the date of Medicare eligibility.
Services covered by the CDBS include: examinations, x-rays, cleaning, fissure sealing, fillings, root canals, extractions and partial dentures. The total benefit entitlement is capped at $1,000 per child.
